Abstract art play

I thought I'd try out the inspire me thursday project this week, which was abstract art.

I'd been working on a still life set-up of a cream and sugar bowl over the weekend in a realistic way and so abstracted from that.

I used Daler-Rowney oil pastels on green pastel paper 8 by 12 ins. Its more muted in colour than my usual style, but I'm leaving as is because its an experiment.

Poem

Managed to write a tiny poem about a white pansy bud. (I had painted the bud in the morning for wetcanvas WDE).
..................
New bud

Drooping head,
like first snowdrop,
white pansy bud,
shy as a girl-
first day at school.
Blown left, right,
by summer breeze.

Emerald star bonnet,
lime mittened hands,
maiden from by-gone
nursery rhyme.

Lifts face,
gazes openly at the sky.
...................

Poem ends.

inspiremethursday

I recently joined the inspiremethursday group on blogspot. Their challenge this week was to do pages for an art journal.

I was inspired to try this out and did 2 pages, which were really great fun to do. I will use this first journal attempt as an experiment in techniques to see which methods feel best for me.

I believe this attempt at visual journalling will help me get back into poetry-writing.

Below are links to my Flickr images

Toby has lots of fans, mainly children. We can't walk past children without them wanting to pat him and he loves it, licking their hands, dancing on his hind legs for them, or falling over on his back for tickles.

I walked past a group of teenage boys today and they fawned all over him too. 'What a cute, lovely dog,' etc. I said 'he is friendly' and one of them translated it as 'camaradski' to the others, and so I think they're Eastern European boys.

I live in a very mixed community. The people are friendly. I like that.

Happy Mayday!

I'm patiently waiting for the first tulip in my tiny garden to open out. It looks pinkish but I wonder if it will mature into a red one?

I need to plant the rest of my summer flower bulbs soon. There's maybe about 2 dozen still to plant. I bought them mail order to get freebies. The bulbs and roots actually came in March but I had to delay planting them because we had frosts here all March and much of April. I stuck them in the dark airing cupboard and the warmth brought them all on. I hope they survive outside.

I watched the first programme in the BBC1 series on the impressionist painters. Its a dramatization of the lives of Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Degas and so forth. It was interesting to realise Monet started out in poverty and kept going, painting outdoors (starting the pleine aire modern movement) , despite not selling work for ages.
