oils

Inspiremethursday project:-

What’s your favorite source for inspiration? Do you feel you need to shake things up in your art? Are you in the mood to try a new technique, a new color palette, a new medium? What is your passion? What are your fears? What is your favorite thing about creating? Your least favorite? Why do you create? Why are you an artist? How do you describe your art? What are your goals? Your dreams?

For the above challenge, I have posted this abstract in oil paint on paper, completed today. The source for inspiration was mostly 'meditating to music' as I painted. It was calm, soothing music and I think the colours used reflect this.

Its a slight departure for me in that I am using oil paints. (I felt a bit stuck in a rut with OPs.) Here, I challenged myself to use more 'greys' in my work, instead of mostly bright and saturated hues.

I enjoy the freedom of using mixes with oils to achieve a subtler and richer range of colour.

I don't want to copy nature in my art (although I continue to admire realistic work); I prefer to create from a more subjective stance. I hope to continue with oil paints for a while.

atc-child

Inspiremethursday challenge- child's play!!

First up:- 3 doodles in pen in my sketchbook of dancers, using a kind of 'childish' approach...scribbling.

Second picture:- An atc from a photo posted in the weekend challenge at wetcanvas. But I am also submitting it as an entry for inspiremethursday this week. Kind of 2 birds with 1 stone idea. Sepia watercolours.

atc mood

This atc/aceo was in response to inspiremethursday challenge: use numbers in a work of art.

This atc is called:- '1 is a giraffe looking over a fence'.

A piece of whimsy but fun to do. Watercolours and ink lines.

Open studio

Today, I finished an oil pastel of a family of tarsiers. I am showing it as part of the inspiremethursday challenge for this week. Its called 'Tarsier family: outing in the forest'. I think it was useful for exploring ways of using colour, colour contrast and mixing with OPs.

A corner of my studio set-up is shown above - after a day's work. So not very tidy folks!!

Words/pictures

Inspire me Thursday project- words in art. Word-art. I enjoyed playing around with this idea today and did 4 small pix.
I posted the 4 pix in my Flickr stream at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/artbyjune/156518562/

Abstract art play

I thought I'd try out the inspire me thursday project this week, which was abstract art.

I'd been working on a still life set-up of a cream and sugar bowl over the weekend in a realistic way and so abstracted from that.

I used Daler-Rowney oil pastels on green pastel paper 8 by 12 ins. Its more muted in colour than my usual style, but I'm leaving as is because its an experiment.
